Bio
Maya Lynn is a violinist dedicated to the exploration of cross-disciplinary studies, and works to build programs exploring the relationship between music and literature by bringing her background and expertise in English Literature to the concert hall stage. Maya is currently pursuing a Masters of Music in Violin Performance at Boston University, and holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin performance and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Boston University. Maya has performed multiple lecture style recitals, creating links between music, art, and literature. In addition, Maya has been featured as a soloist for Northern Stage’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Her performance in the production was credited by the White River Valley Herald as being “a treat of the evening … which knit together different scenes in the production”. Maya collaborated with the artistic director to build a soundscape for the production using violin masterpieces.
Maya is currently an active freelancer in the Boston area. She has performed with orchestras such as the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Cape Symphony, New Bedford Symphony, Plymouth Philharmonic, and the Portsmouth Symphony, and is a scholarship artist with the Boston Civic Symphony. This summer she served as guest assistant concertmaster with the Cape Symphony for their performance of Jaws celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film. While at BU, she performs with the Boston University Symphony, Chamber, and Opera Orchestras where she has sat assistant principal as well as section violin. She was also formally a member of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and has performed in major concert halls in the United States and Europe such as Boston’s Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, Sanders Theatre, and Theatre im Delphi in Berlin. While a member of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Maya participated in the 2018 European Tour performing in major concert halls in Europe such as, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Mahler Festival in Jilava, Rudolfinum in Prague, Mozarteum in Salzburg, National Concert Hall of Budapest, Kodaly Center of Pecs, Musikverein in Vienna, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Maya has also attended Festival del Lago, the Berlin Opera Academy and the Intermuse International Music Festival and Institute.
An avid chamber musician, Maya is the founding violinist of the Calla Duo; a Boston based duo dedicated to presenting accessible classical music concerts with a wide range of repertoire. In the summer of 2026 the Calla Duo presented their debut tour, presenting seven formal recitals in addition to outreach concerts throughout New England.
Maya has studied with renowned teachers such as Yuri Mazurkevich, Dr. Minju Kim, Moni Simeonov, Lucia Lin, Bayla Keyes, Kathy Andrew, and Peter Rovit. She has been coached by Simon James, Lucia Lin, and Nathan Giem and has performed in masterclasses with Jeremy Bell, Grigory Kalinovsky, Sebastian Mueller, James Stern, Alexi Kenney, Kristin Lee, and Lucy Chapman.
As an educator, Maya has worked with the Boston Music Project for three years. At BMP she is currently Ensemble Director for the K1/K2 class at the Winship School. She has served as Teaching Artist for the Kreisler Orchestra at the Mendell School, Ensemble Director for the K1/K2 class at the Croft School, taught private lessons at Hill House, and Directed the first grade ensemble at the BMP Summer Strings Intensive. Maya also holds a private studio and has worked to create opportunities for young musicians in her hometown to play chamber music in the larger community.
Maya has also worked extensively in arts administration working for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and Boston University College of Fine Arts Dean’s Office. When not performing or practicing, Maya enjoys reading, baking and cooking, spending time with her family and siblings, and watching the Great British Bake-off with a mug of hot tea.
